Hollyhock Tidbit....
Hollyhocks were often planted next to outhouses long ago. Why, you ask?
So that in the event visitors came calling, a lady need not announce in front of everyone her need to use the privy. (Toilet) As the hollyhocks were next to the outhouse, one merely asked where the hollyhocks were, and when pointed in the direction, did not need to reveal if she were going to admire the hollyhocks or do something else while there. Ah, such a lady-like gesture! So if you have an outhouse, be sure to plant a few next to it even just for fun.
Here's a photo of my Grandparents......
I found some other Hollyhock dolls that used the bud to make a head for the doll....Check these ones out. Next time I'll make one of these kind. I'm hoping to plant a few Hollyhocks of my own.

I love hollyhocks! Thanks for sharing the memory with great grandma/grandpa. Now I have more of a reason to love them. Beautiful pics!
Beautiful hollyhocks. I've tried planting them last year and I'm not having any luck. Yes they bring back lots of memories.
They sure are beautiful!!! I'm lucky enough to have a straight shot- view of them from my kitchen window! I didn't know what they were called, but I love them!!!
