Carson Football at Freemont

Carson (#54) has played on the Freemont Sophmore Football team this past year. He played offensive right tackle and started for most of the games. He has been hard at work between conditioning and practices every weekday since June. They won most of their games and it was fun to see him play. Carson missed the last game because he was quite ill. Now the varsity team is play for the state 5-A title against Bingham on Friday. Carson has been pretty hyped about continuing to support the team.

What a hot game...handsome kid under that helmet...sort of sweaty now though.

Carson is number 54.

Time out...

Good wrap up block...See the guy with his leg up in the air? That is Carson's arm around him getting ready to take him out, along wih another guy. This game was against Viewmont, Gary's old school...yes, Freemont won! Weber (my old school) beat Freemont at the last minute by a fieldgoal. These are all the sophmore games that I'm refering to.

Gary's Missionary Reunion

On Saturday, August 21, We attended the first missionary reunion for Gary since we had been married.  It was a nice experience, but a long one.  We then went to the Wight House in Bountiful for Gary's HS reunion.  It was also a nice event and just the right length of time.  This brought up memories of Gary's mission and I thought the family doesn't know much about his mission, so I'm sharing some of his photos and history here.

Below is an excerpt from a synopsis of his mission.  For a full account email me and I'll send you a copy.

In this area he borrowed a bike while tracking on a split and a cable clip caught Gary’s pants as he rounded a corner, tearing them from the crotch down to the ankle on the seam. He held his pants together as best he could and hobbled into a dry cleaning store where he sat in a changing booth while a woman sewed up his pants and then he was again on his way to teach.

About 2/3 of the way through his mission the boundries changed and he was then in the Oakland mission.  His new mission president was Lindsey R. Curtis from Ogden, Utah. He was a retired OB/GYN doctor who was also an author of many books. One of them was titled, “And They Shall Be One Flesh” about intimacy between a man and a wife. He gave us an autographed copy of the book when Gary and I were married.

Gary’s brother Bryan left to the Melbourne Australia mission midway through his mission, making it over three years before they saw each other again.
Interesting tidbit from Gary's HS reunion was that there was a girl in his class named Debbie Kent who turned up missing after a school play, with her car left in the parking lot.  She was one of the victims of serial killer Ted Bundy.  They had her family at the reunion and gave a special presentation to them.  One of Gary's yearbooks theme was "Color my World", A popular song by Chicago from the era.  They had a page dedicated to her loss that said "Our world lost a bit of it's color".    See some of the history about her below and click on Bundy's name for another link if interested.

In Murray, Utah, on November 8, 1974, Carol DaRonch narrowly escaped with her life. Claiming to be Officer Roseland of the Murray Police Department, Bundy lured DaRonch into his car where he then attempted to handcuff her. Fortunately for DaRonch, he only got one wrist. She managed to open the door with her other hand, rolled out of the car onto the highway and escaped with contusions to the head given to her by a blunt instrument that Bundy had taped underneath the car seat.

Frustrated in his attempt to kill DaRonch, Bundy snatched Debbie Kent, who was attending a school play in Bountiful, Utah, mere hours later. Kent, seventeen, disappeared after leaving the school play. She had left early and alone to pick up her brother, but her car never left the parking lot. Residents nearby reported hearing screams from the area of the lot, and a handcuff key that fit the cuffs left on DaRonch's wrist was later found on the ground nearby. Bundy had been clearly seen lurking in the back of the auditorium where the play was held and had boldly appeared backstage, confronting a drama teacher with the demand that she accompany him to the parking lot to allegedly identify a vehicle—the same ruse Bundy had tried earlier in the day with DaRonch. Kent's body has never been found.
From Wikipedia....
November 8: Debra "Debby" Kent (17). Vanished from the parking lot of a school in Bountiful, Utah, hours after Carol DaRonch escaped from Bundy. Shortly before his execution, Bundy confessed to investigators that he dumped Kent at a site near Fairview, Utah. An intense search of the site produced a human patella (knee cap), which matched the profile for someone of Kent's age and size. DNA testing has not been attempted.

Arise Youth Spectacular....Spectacular Youth!

For the past 6-8 months 3500 youth from 33 stakes in northern Utah have been putting blood, sweat, tears, and about a million rehearsal hours in the “Arise and Shine Forth Youth Spectacular.” 170 full time missionaries and the Weber State Institute choral and dance groups also participated, coming together to present one of the most incredible productions Ogden has ever seen. All that effort culminated this Friday and Saturday night as they performed at Weber State’s football stadium. An estimate of around 45,000 people came to see them in this 2 night spectacular, and set the all time attendance record at Weber State University. The event was stunning from start to finish.
Pre-earth life portrayal , They also portrayed the war in heaven. Then they peeled off their outer layer to these bright outfits.
The West council (Ours), featured singing and dancing from Pioneers, the Twenties, Fifties, and then
“Our time” with Hip/Hop.Notice that the girls turned their skirts inside out to white for the dance below.
The "roaring" 20's...
The "nifty Fifties"...  Look for Carson holding a record with a turquoise center.
The fulltime missionaries also participated...Check out the ones from Polynesia!
Though I did not get great photos for the ending, it was wonderful.  All 3500 participants came from everywhere, including the audience, all carrying a candle in their hand along with a bag over their shoulders that contained the Book of Mormon.  At the end they all held up their Book of Mormon and proclaim the truth to the world.
The South council celebrated the restoration of the gospel in different countries- western outfits for USA, Scotland, New Guinea, Africa, South America and India  We were told about this production earlier this year and we were to encourage our youth to participate. Carson had flatly said he was not interested at first and just before Mother’s day in May he was singing some of the songs and talking about going to a practice for Arise. I became so excited when he had said that he was going to be a part of Arise…I just cried and told him that was the best Mother’s day gift he could give me. Last night after the final production he told me “Happy Mother’s Day” and again I had tears in my eyes. Those who missed the show missed out on a great opportunity. Carson asked if any of his siblings had come and then he said: “The whole world needed to hear of this great message!” He was “pumped” with the spirit…it was great; you could just feel the energy all around and coming from him. He also made such a handsome “Fifties” guy with his white T-shirt and rolled up sleeves, slicked back hair, and cuffed Levis.

Saying that it was AMAZING doesn’t even begin to describe it! They all did so well, and it came together to truly make a spectacular show. I was so glad I got the opportunity to go and see this amazing show! The spirit was so strong! I loved the whole pre-earth life portrayal from the North council. The West council, featured singing and dancing from Pioneers, the Twenties, Fifties, and then “Our time” with Hip/Hop. The South council celebrated the restoration of the gospel in different countries- western outfits for USA, Scotland, New Guinea, Africa, South America and India. It was breathtaking!! I also loved the finale when all 3500 youth were together on the football field, marching in with all the missionaries in our area singing Called to Serve. And when they all knelt down at the feet of the Savior with their lights…. amazing!! There were so many other parts I liked, but most of all I was impressed with the youth that put so much time and effort into it! They even got teenage boys out there dancing! Amazing! They all knew what they were supposed to do and they did it with exactness! So proud of them and so glad I got to go! Grandma Zola also enjoyed the event on Saturday night.

Check out this cool Blog that also has some of the music they sang.
